From Waynesboro to Natchez
The
Corridor in the State of Mississippi is located entirely on US-84
highway. The route enters Mississippi from Louisiana at Natchez. The
route passes through the cities of Brookhaven, Monticello, Prentiss,
Collins, Laurel, and Waynesboro to Alabama.
The 1987 Mississippi Legislature enacted a 1200 mile
four-lane highway program known as the 1987 Highway Program (aka
AHEAD Program). US-84 is included in this program; therefore,
the State of Mississippi has committed sufficient funds to complete
the entire route in the state as a four-lane divided highway. The
1987 Highway Program is on schedule to be completely under
contract in Fiscal Year 2006.
US-84 Status (Open & Under Construction):
More than two thirds of the US-84 Corridor in
Mississippi is either under final construction contract or already
complete and open to traffic. There are 128 miles open to traffic
and 58 miles either under construction or to be placed under
construction for a total route length of 186 miles.
Work to be completed:
The incomplete portion of E1 Camino, East- West
Corridor in Mississippi should be under final contract by June
30, 2006. The last segment should open to traffic no later than
December 2008. Construction projects will be awarded to contract
according to the following financial summary and as shown on the
