From Isney to Silas

The El Camino East/West Corridor will
consist of Highway 84 from the Alabama/Georgia border to the
Alabama/Mississippi border. The cities along the route include
Silas, Avon, Cowarts,
Dothan, Level Plains,
Enterprise, New
Brockton, Elba, Opp, Babbie, Sanford, Andalusia, River Falls,
Herbert,
Evergreen, Belleville, Repton, Mexia,
Monroeville,
Perdue Hill, Claiborne, Gosport, Whatley, Grove Hill, Zimco,
Cofeeville, Bolinger, and Isney.
The entire five state corridor is
eligible for federal funding since it has been accepted into the
National Highway System from each state and the Federal Highway
Administration. The corridor will be built using the present
two-lane highways listed above and adding additional two-lanes along
the same right-of-ways which are being used at the present time. It
is designed to utilize
the present right-of-ways and purchase
additional amounts of land on one or both sides to ad two additional
lanes of
concrete or asphalt construction. by using this design and method
of construction little, if any, environmental impact will be
realized. this design will not meet Interstate Highway standards
because service roads and overpasses will not be asked for or
required to build a modern, safe and dependable highway system
through the rural areas and small town of all five states through
which this very historic route passes. |
